The association to make Hyperburgers in Berlin
I am collecting subscriptions from all over the planet to start a real-world pilot of Hyperburgers in Berlin. When a good number of people signs up, the second step is to create the Association – in German, the Verein – that will legally frame the community and the space. Your participation at this stage is everything to make the project happen. Join the initiative now by filling the Google form. When things are ready, I will send you an email to confirm your subscription.
Recap: positioning the project in the cultural realm (2021–2024)
Since its debut at the Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation Show during Dutch Design Week 2021, Hyperburgers has gained international recognition: it has been featured in prominent media outlets such as Fast Company US, Elle Decor, Arttribune, Treehugger, il Venerdì di Repubblica, Radio Popolare; it has received invitations from esteemed cultural institutions, including BASE Milano, Het Nieuwe Instituut Rotterdam, Dutch Design Foundation, ADI Design Museum Compasso d'Oro, Drop City Milano. Was institutionally showcased during Milan Design Week in both 2022 and 2023 and is currently touring with the group show "Italy: The New Collective Landscape", exhibited at the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) in 2023 and the Shanghai Italian Expo Pavilion in 2024.
December 2024: Launching a real-world Pilot in Berlin
While the project has thrived as cultural content, my ultimate goal has always been to bring it to life in the real world, especially after receiving the positive feedback of a couple thousands of visitors to whom I personally pitched the project during the various design weeks over the years. For this reason, after taking a year to land back in Berlin, I am now launching a 12-months long crowdfund campaign to rent a shop & kitchen in Neukölln for a whole year. In this space, 1000 members will collectively test the first pilot of Hyperburgers, a non-profit Consumer’s Lab where to self-grow, self-source, self-process, and self-distribute food in recycled packaging.
Financial strategy
If 1000 people donate upfront a minimum of 3€ per month for 12 months, so 36€ in total, the sum of 36.000€ will sustain the shop for 1 year, including rent, energy costs, liability insurance, basic shop furniture and appliances, legal, accounting, banking, basic admins refund. Each donor will be offered a complimentary coffee or tea per month to enjoy directly in the shop.
Vision
In the middle of 2026, if things are going well, we'll start new the crowd-fund campaign for 2027. The long-term vision of Hyperburgers is to grow into an open-source global protocol for any community of consumer in the world to reclaim space in the city and take consumption back in their own hands. From oatmilk to babaganoush, this can be the place where we get to practice relief and resilience with friends, meet our neighbors, learn from each other, prevent waste, eat better and save money.
Founder
I am a freelance designer and art director working for both corporate clients and cultural institutions since 2009. In 2019 I left Berlin to go study Social Design at Design Academy Eindhoven. My thesis, Hyperburgers, introduced the concept of an open-source brand and protocol to start non-profit community supermarkets anywhere in the world.
Updates
20 December 2024: starting the first Berlin order of Luigi's Extravirgin Olive Oil. Get some.
