Luigi's Extravirgin Olive Oil
Luigi is a retired Italian gentleman from Puglia, Italy. I have seen his passion for extravirgin oil making during our interview which you can watch here. For 20 years he has been taking care of his own Peranzana trees planted in his 3 fields outside San Severo, at safe distant from polluting sources. He processes the oil every year in early November with a few helpers at the local mill, demanding that the machines are washed before his turn. He harvests a bit earlier, sacrificing quantity to increase polyphenols, powerful antioxidants. He has no brand nor certification to keep the price low for his community. Extravirgin oil from bio boutiques can cost up to 5 times Luigi's price, and often has to bend to industrial processes. Supermarket oil often bears trust issues and has similar price bottled in lower amounts. I am gonna make a new order shipped in Berlin in early January.
